Members Adapt to Zoom, Hybrid, Now Zoom Again!

Since the pandemic prompted Stay at Home orders and social distancing, our club members have had to adapt both at home and the workplace. Same with our Rotary world. Our club began meeting via Zoom, progressed to limited in person meetings, then moved to a hybrid structure. What's a hybrid structure for our Rotary? Some members met in person, while projecting Zoom on a large TV screen for members who preferred to participate virtually. Now, with San Diego County back on Stay at Home orders--we're back to Zoom. Hang in there, friends and Rotarians! #InThisTogether Click here to access link to meeting of December 8, 2020. Click link below for more info on Zoom and Rotary.

Rotary Responds to Food, Toy Drives for Needy Families
Our club's efforts led to overflow of a collection bin with food and toys to support the partnership of the Chula Vista Elementary School District, the Chula Vista Welfare Council, and Chula Vista Police Activities League (CVPAL) to collect donations of food and toys. CVESD employee Mayela Couturier helped decorate the beautiful bin our club used to collect items. The response from the community and our members was tremendous. First Bank allowed our club to place the bin in its lobby to collect donations from customers and club members. First Bank also donated $400 towards the purchase of food and/or toys to support this cause. A special thanks goes out to First Bank Vice President and Senior Branch Manager Lourdes Valdez. We are so happy to have Lourdes, a charter member, back with our club. She has been so enthusiastic—we all feed off her energy and tireless efforts on behalf of Rotary.

Club Members Volunteer on Environmental Cleanups
Our club members participated in the 36th Annual Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday, September 26, 2020 in San Diego County. The global cleanup effort encouraged participants to make a local difference by removing litter and debris throughout the day. Our club chose to help clean up the shores along Imperial Beach. Members know that the impact on the health of our waterways and oceans – protecting the coast—starts at your front door!

Help Needed for Chula Vista 'Santa's Shop'

Brendaly Rodriguez, Director of the Chula Vista Community Collaborative, reminds us that the organization still needs support to make this year's Santa's Shop a success. In particular, the program needs donations of $25 gift cards for teenagers; 33 unwrapped toys/gifts for children ages 11-14 (the breakdown is 12 boys and 21 girls); and 18 gifts for boys ages 7-10. The CVCC currently operates five Family Resource Centers (FRCs) in the South County, with each one providing a gateway to a full range of family-strengthening services. Most of the families assisted through the Santa’s Shop program have been referred to the FRCs throughout the year by area schools and have been working with FRC staff on a multitude of issues. Donations from partner organizations, including toys from the Chula Vista Police Activities League and food from Chula Vista Welfare Council helped this program. To help the Santa's Shop, please contact Brendaly Rodriguez at brendaly.rodriguez@cvesd.org or christina.ross@cvesd.org to make an appointment to drop off donations.
